‘August: Osage County' Trailer: New Meryl Streep Movie (Obviously) Looks Like an Oscar Contender

Apparently it's never too early to get the embers of Oscar Season stoked. The summer movie marathon has only just begun, but the Weinstein Company has just released a trailer for “August: Osage County.” Based on Tracy Letts's Pulitzer Prize-winning play and stocked with a murderer's row of prestigious actors, this film says one thing, loud and clear: It's on, Academy Awards. The movie, directed by John Wells and produced by George Clooney, centers around a dysfunctional family that is brought back together following the death of the family patriarch (played by Sam Shepard). The cast, who play the various members of the Weston family, is insane (deep breath): Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, and Chris Cooper (all of them previous Oscar winners), alongside Ewan McGregor, “Star Trek” baddie Benedict Cumberbatch, Margo Martindale, Abigail Breslin, Juliette Lewis, and Dermot Mulroney. Yes please. After the initial teaser poser, which just rattled off the movie stars involved in the movie, with a simplistic image of a house, it looked like it could be too dry to be entertaining. But the trailer shows a vivaciousness that cannot be undermined, and everyone looks like they are performing at the top of their game. Plus, Letts previously wrote “Bug” and “Killer Joe.” It's just too bad we have to wait until November 8th to see “August: Osage County.” At the very least it will make your Thanksgiving seem positively normal by comparison.
