Moviefone's New Release Pick of the Week
"The Hunger Games" -- Available on Saturday, August 18
What's It About? The best-selling book series about a deadly society where children compete against each other, gets its first of four adaptations. In the opening salvo, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) volunteers to enter the fatal playing field, in hopes of sparing her younger sister, and struggles to stay alive amongst friends and enemies.
See It Because: As far as adaptations of young adult novels go, this is one of the best. Director Gary Ross takes the subject matter seriously and imbues the project with some real drama, while Lawrence is pitch-perfect as the heroic but fallible Katniss.
