British actor Bob Hoskins has announced his retirement after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
In a statement, the 69-year-old star of such films as "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" and "Hook," thanked his fans, telling them that he had had a "wonderful career."
Hoskins revealed that he was diagnosed with the condition last fall. His most recent screen role was as the blind dwarf Muir, who recognizes that Kristen Stewart is the one to lead her people to freedom, in "Snow White and the Huntsman."
His resume also includes British classics like "The Long Good Friday," "Brazil" and "Mona Lisa," and Hollywood films like "Mermaids," "Michael" and "Maid in Manhattan." Best known for playing gruff types with hearts of gold, he was also a go-to choice for real-life figures, having played Nikita Khrushchev in the film "Enemy at the Gates," J. Edgar Hoover for Oliver Stone in "Nixon" and Winston Churchill and Benito Mussolini in TV movies.
