When Jonah Hill's name was called out as an Oscar nominee Tuesday morning, there were audible rumblings of surprise and, dare we say, disapproval.
While the blogosphere buzzed over why the usually-funny Hill got the nod for his straight role in "Moneyball," over Albert Brooks's rare villainous turn in "Drive," the fact remains that the Academy rarely shows love to comedians. Hill's just one of a few who've been recognized by the Academy for getting serious. Of course, that ploy doesn't always work, as Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler can tell you, but for funny people like Jamie Foxx, playing it straight was their path to Oscar gold. Russell Brand, take notes!
