Anne Hathaway may have donned her badass Catwoman suit on the April cover of EW, but in the first "Les Miserables," teaser, she's looking quite the opposite of Gotham.
In the first footage for "Les Mis," Hathaway portrays Fantine, a struggling factory worker trying to make ends meet. The short clip features the former Oscar host singing "I Dreamed a Dream," set against the backdrop of director Tom Hooper's striking recreation of 1830s Paris.
Also present in the video: Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, a recently released prisoner; Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert, a prison guard chasing after Valjean; Amanda Seyfried as Cosette, the illegitimate daughter of Fantine; and Eddie Redmayne as Marius Pontmercy, a love interest of Cosette's.
From the looks of the first footage, "Les Mis" could end up being in the Oscar conversation come 2013. (Hooper is obviously no stranger to the Academy: He won Best Director in 2011.)
You can watch the full teaser above. "Les Miserables" is set to hit theaters December 14.
