"Margin Call"
Nominated For: Best Original Screenplay
What's It About: "Margin Call" follows a group of employees (Zachary Quinto, Stanley Tucci, Jeremy Irons, Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany, Penn Badgley) at an investment firm as they try to navigate their way through a financial crisis. It also looks at the inner workings of big corporations and the cutthroat nature of the business.
Why You Should See It: Aside from the powerhouse cast, "Margin Call" is a blunt, face-forward examination of the current financial climate in the United States. It doesn't pull any punches when it comes to showing the underhanded tactics used in the trading and stock industries; as such, it's a nice change from the sugar-coated alternatives that have graced the big screen in the past few years.
It's Kind Of Like: A mix of "Wall Street" and "Boiler Room," with a touch of Michael Moore's "Capitalism: A Love Story."
How You Can See It: No longer in theaters, it is available on DVD and Blu-Ray.
