This weekend's box office releases are all about edge-of-your-seat thrills -- or at least we hope they are. Sci-fi action film "After Earth" and the magical thriller "Now You See Me" both open this Friday, and we demand to be riveted! "After Earth" re-teams father-son duo Will and Jaden Smith ("The Pursuit of Happyness"), who play Cypher (Will) and Kitai (Jaden), also father and son. The movie follows Cypher and Kitai as they crash land on Earth 1,000 years after a cataclysmic disaster forced humans to flee the planet. Because his father is seriously injured, Kitai needs to set out alone on the feral planet, which is now overrun by human-hunting animals and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash, to find help. M. Night Shyamalan directs the post-apocalyptic flick, which he recently told Moviefone is a "passing-of-the-torch" moment for Will and Jaden. Only time, and box office numbers, will tell if 14-year-old Jaden can anchor a movie as well as his A-list father. Back on present-day Earth, "Now You See Me" follows a group of illusionists named "The Four Horsemen," who pull off a series of heists, much to the dismay of a dumbfounded FBI officers investing them. The magicians act as modern-day Robin Hoods, stealing from the corrupt rich during their shows and handing out the money to their audiences. Woody Harrelson, Morgan Freeman, Isla Fisher, Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, and Dave Franco (James Franco's little bro) star in the thriller, so the question is: Does all that star-power add up to movie magic? Opening in limited release this week is "The East," starring Alexander Skarsgard, Ellen Page, Brit Marling, and Patricia Clarkson. The action/drama follows Sarah Moss (Marling), a former FBI agent now working at Hiller Brood, an elite private intelligence firm that protects the interests of A-list corporate clientele. Moss is tasked with infiltrating The East, an elusive anarchist group looking to bring down major corporations guilty of covering up criminal activities. Also in select theaters this Friday is "The Kings of Summer," a unique coming-of-age comedy about three teenage friends -- Joe (Nick Robinson), Patrick (Gabriel Basso), and the eccentric and unpredictable Biaggio (Moises Arias), who, in the ultimate act of independence, decide to spend their summer building a house in the woods and living off the land. Which movie are you excited to see this weekend?
