There are a lot of questions surrounding “Jurassic Park 4” –- the sequel to the dino-tastic blockbuster that is being helmed by “Safety Not Guaranteed” director Colin Trevorrow –- but at least one question has been answered today, by Trevorrow's Twitter account.
Trevorrow tweeted a photo of a lush island landscape. At the bottom of the photo is the tag “JP4 location scout.” Trevorrow's caption? “Nublar.” This is a reference to Isla Nublar, the island from the first film (the sequel and the third film were both set on Isla Sorna, a neighboring island where the dinosaurs were raised). Let the speculation begin!
If you're wondering what tropical vista that is in real life, it's the Hawaiian island of Kauai. Universal confirmed last month that the film will shoot in Kauai and Raleigh Studios in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, starting in July. Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, of “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” fame, are writing the film, although what, exactly, it will be about is being tightly kept under wraps. Fairly safe to assume that it will involve dinosaurs, though, and now, with this location reveal, the park itself?
Steven Spielberg's original “Jurassic Park” was re-released in theaters this spring for the film's 20th anniversary, in a fancy new 3D transfer. It was a sleeper hit, proving that the audience is still very much interested in genetic engineering run amok. The film is still awesome in the very literal sense of the word –- it still creates a sense of awe in you, two decades after it was initially released. It remains to be seen if “Jurassic Park 4” can conjure similar sensations in the viewer.
