A lot of movies are described as “cursed,” but the Natalie Portman western “Jane Got a Gun” seems like it was genuinely built on an ancient Indian burial ground. The latest casualty? Co-star Bradley Cooper, who had to leave the production because filming on David O. Russell's “American Hustle” got delayed due to the terrorist bombing in Boston, and his commitments to that film forced him out of “Jane Got a Gun.” According to the same Deadline report, Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Tom Hiddleston are on the short list for replacements.
To recap: “Jane Got A Gun” was supposed to be director Lynne Ramsay's follow up to her blazingly brilliant “We Need To Talk About Kevin.” It's just that, on the first day of shooting, Ramsay was a no-show. The full story hasn't been uncovered as to what, exactly, happened to the filmmaker, but following her departure, Jude Law (playing the villainous character later set to be handled by Cooper) also left the production. Law was only on the movie for the chance to work with Lynne, so he wasn't about to stick around.
“Warrior” director Gavin O'Connor took over for Ramsay and things, for a while at least, seemed like they were settling down. The movie, about a woman (Portman) who enlists the help of a former lover (Joel Edgerton) to fend off a gang who comes to murder her husband (Noah Emmerich), seemed like it was back on track. But now the Cooper departure has the production scrambling once more, with the behind-the-scenes drama rivaling anything that's in the actual movie.
