Robert Downey Jr. isn't just one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood right now, he's also one of the most likeable. Case in point: The Marvel superstar charmed and delighted when he showed up at a special screening for teens who helped clean up areas damaged by Hurricane Sandy.
The screening at the midtown Manhattan theater, hosted by Disney and the New York Daily News, was already going to be a fun night out for the young Police Athletic League volunteers and their friends and family. Little did they know Tony Stark was waiting in the wings as well.
The dapper actor told the excited audience, "I'm from New York and Tony Stark's from New York, so I guess that means Iron Man's from New York."
Before posing for photos with fans -- and the police outside the theater -- he complimented them for their hard work helping those devastated by the storm. "I just want to say thank you to the Daily News and the Police Athletic League and all of you folks. I know you're all here because you've been doing something special in the five boroughs, for this great city… You're the future of the nation. I guarantee if you keep doing the right thing, you're going to be running the joint in a minute."
"Iron Man 3" opens across the country Friday.
