Seth MacFarlane Invited to Host Oscars in 2014: Report

Despite being almost universally panned for his gag-heavy, borderline misogynistic performance as the host of the 2013 Oscar telecast, Seth MacFarlane, the creator of “Family Guy” and “The Cleveland Show” (and director of last year's surprise smash “Ted”), has reportedly been invited back to host the 2014 Oscars, according to initial reports. Not only is this shocking due to the reviews MacFarlane gathered, but also because he had explicitly tweeted that he wasn't interested in hosting for a second time. By our rough estimation, the Oscar gig will be smack dab in the middle of post-production on his new western comedy “A Million Ways to Die in the West” (which co-stars Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried, and Liam Neeson), so that could be tricky, not to mention his one thousand other commitments, including a new live action sitcom). The report suggests that he has to decide in the next few weeks whether or not he's going to accept the gig. Previously, Justin Timberlake had been rumored to fill the role. But it doesn't matter if critics yawned (and attacked) -- this week's telecast was up over last year, raking in 40.3 million viewers and scoring in the key 18-49 demographic that make advertisers weak in the knees.
