The Barden Bellas are set to take the stage once again: Universal Pictures just announced that “Pitch Perfect” will get a sequel.
The 2012 flick, set at the fictional Barden University, starred Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson as members of a rag-tag female a cappella group trying to recover from an embarrassing showing at a nationwide a cappella competition. It struck a chord with audiences, who ate up the charming story, leading Universal chief Adam Fogelson to greenlight a sequel.
Fogelson made the announcement at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, and said “Pitch Perfect 2” should be in theaters sometime in 2015. Original writer Kay Cannon is also returning for the project, ensuring the fun, sassy tone of the movie will stay intact.
No word yet on plot or casting details, though the film's open ending left room for most of the original cast to return. The story closed with group member Beca (Kendrick) as a sophomore and the new leader of the Bellas; maybe the sequel could feature her swan song as a senior? We aca-can't wait to find out.
