Have you ever listened to Eminem's 2002 hit “Without Me” and thought, “These cartoonish vocals would make an excellent soundtrack for an animated film”? Then you're going to love the new trailer for “Despicable Me 2,” which made its debut today.
The film is a follow-up to the 2010 hit, which featured Steve Carell voicing Gru, a heavily-accented villain whose run-in with a trio of adorable orphan girls turns his world upside down. Gru and the girls -- and the Minions, who are set for their own spinoff film in 2014 -- are back for another round in “Despicable Me 2,” where this time Gru is playing the good guy, joining forces with the Anti-Villain League to take down a new threat.
The aforementioned Eminem track makes an unlikely but excellent backdrop for the shenanigans on display in the trailer, where Gru is stuffed into a car trunk, little orphan Agnes compares Gru's bald head to a hatching egg, and the Minions giggle over the word “bottom.”
Expect lots of similar hijinks and pratfalls throughout this follow-up, which in addition to Carell features the voices of Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Russell Brand, Ken Jeong, Steve Coogan, and Al Pacino. “Despicable Me 2” hits theaters on July 3.
