Moviefone's New Release Pick of the Week
"Wreck-It Ralph"
What It's About? Ralph, the bad-guy from a "Donkey Kong"-esque arcade game, grows tired of his villainous routine and escapes through the world of video games to prove that he can be a hero.
See It Because: With cameos ranging from "Pac-Man" to "Street Fighter," this inventive comedy may do for video games what "Toy Story" did for toys. It was also nice to see one of our most gifted character actors, John C. Reilly, anchoring a film on his own.
New on DVD & Blu-ray
"The Bay"
What It's About? Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson dips his toes into the "found footage" horror market with the genuinely terrifying tale of a coastal town that is slaughtered by ecological nightmares from the water. This mash-up of "Jaws" and "Contagion" features some of the most ingenious use of the "fake documentary" techniques and will send a shiver down your spine if you're concerned at all about the effects of oceanic pollution.
See It or Skip It: See it.
"The Intouchables"
What It's About? An African immigrant becomes the caretaker for a cranky quadriplegic in this uplifting French comedy that's well-acted, but way too sugary and sappy.
See It or Skip It: Skip it.
"Lay the Favorite"
What It's About? Bruce Willis, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Vince Vaughn co-star in a gambling comedy that's just... there.
See It or Skip It: Skip it.
"Playing for Keeps"
What It's About? Gerard Butler stars in another romantic comedy devoid of charm, passion, and chemistry.
See It or Skip It: Skip it.
"Red Dawn"
What It's About? This deathly serious remake of one of the cheesiest, most implausible pieces of '80s Soviet fear mongering is by-the-numbers predictable.
See It or Skip It: Skip it.
