Move over, Willem Dafoe, it's Oscar-winner Chris Cooper's turn to play Spider-Man's arch-nemesis, the Green Goblin.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news earlier today that Cooper ("American Beauty," "The Bourne Identity") would be playing the undeniably-wealthy-yet-mentally-unstable Norman Osborn opposite Andrew Garfield in the upcoming sequel to the 2012 blockbuster "The Amazing Spider-Man." Plot details are pretty much non-existent at this point (the movie doesn't hit theaters until 2014), so we're not even sure that we'll be getting the full-blown Osborn-to-Goblin transformation or just an introduction to the character. Let's hope the former.
Cooper's casting adds yet another strong player to the already impressive roster of actors attached to director Marc Webb's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2." Of course, Garfield, Emma Stone, Sally Field, and Martin Sheen are back for round two, but this time around they'll be joined by Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti, Dane DeHaan, and Shailene Woodley.
Let's see how this all pans out in Summer 2014.
