"Django Unchained" Nominated For: Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Christoph Waltz), Best Cinematography, Best Sound Editing, Best Original Screenplay (Quentin Tarantino) What's It About? A German bounty hunter (Waltz), out searching for two slave owners in the American South, comes across a slave, Django (Jamie Foxx), as he's being transported. After securing Django's freedom, the two unlikely partners buddy up and head out on a vengeful journey to rescue Django's enslaved wife, making many friends and enemies along the way. Why You Should See It: Despite the classic excessive Tarantino violence (which is on par with his usual fare), there's actually a lot of heart in this film. Underneath all the horrible truths about slavery, abuse and human trade, there is a love story going on, of a man trying to save his wife from certain death. Combine that with an amazing script (for which Tarantino already won the Golden Globe and the BAFTA) and some tremendous performances from Leonardo DiCaprio, Foxx and Waltz, and you have yourself one of the most engaging films of the year. It's Kind of Like: "Glory" meets "Inglourious Basterds" with a dash of "Unforgiven" for the Western feel. How You Should See It: "Django Unchained" is still playing in theaters.
