"Silver Linings Playbook" Nominated For: Best Picture, Best Director (David O. Russell), Best Actor (Bradley Cooper), Best Supporting Actor (Robert De Niro), Best Supporting Actress (Jacki Weaver), Cinematography, Best Adapted Screenplay (David O. Russell), Film Editing. What's It About? Based on the novel by Matthew Quick, the film follows a clinically depressed man (Bradley Cooper) who returns to his parents' (Robert De Niro and Jacki Weaver) home after a lengthy stint in a mental hospital. While trying to put his life back together (via running while wearing a trash bag) he meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), who also struggles with depression. Together, they partner up for a dance competition and help each other find their own silver lining. Why You Should See It: Who doesn't love an unlikely love story? Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence are perfect as the flying-off-the-handle duo. If they don't have you sold, the supporting cast, led by Robert De Niro and Jacki Weaver, is just delightful. Oh, and the story it touching while avoiding all romcom cliches. By the end of the quirky -- sometimes legitimately dark -- story you really do believe that these two have found each other. It's Kind of Like: "Dirty Dancing" meets "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest" with the sports-enthusiasm of "Buffalo 66" but, you know, more cerebral and less upsetting. How You Should See It: "Silver Linings Playbook" is still playing in theaters. You can check out showtimes here.
