As far as successful years go, Matthew McConaughey had a pretty magical one in 2012, with critically acclaimed turns in "Bernie," "Killer Joe," "The Paperboy" and, of course, "Magic Mike." It was a new chapter for the superstar, who up until then had been best-known for starring in light-hearted romantic comedies (and having a killer beach body). In fact, at one point an Oscar campaign was underway to get McConaughey a nod for his performance in "Magic Mike." So was he bummed at all when his name wasn't called? "As far as the awards, no, I wasn't [disappointed]," the actor told Moviefone while promoting his upcoming film "Mud" at the Sundance Film Festival. "I immediately said, 'OK, I have never done this whole thing with awards shows. So let's go embrace this and learn. Let's dissect what worked. Let's dissect the positives.' We as people don't do that. We dissect failure a lot more than we dissect success." McConaughey is definitely going to have a lot to dissect in 2013, with his role in Martin Scorsese's '80s drama "The Wolf of Wall Street," along with a more serious turn in the real-life drama "Dallas Buyers Club," where he will play Ron Woodruff, a man diagnosed with HIV. So, who knows: another Oscar campaign might be in the cards. If it is, McConaughey will certainly be along for the ride. "[Awards are] all a bonus. The work's done. That's been the fun thing about this whole trip." You can read more from our Matthew McConaughey interview when we post it next week. "Mud" will hit theaters some time in 2013.
