It was the greatest manhunt in history, and soon, audiences will get to see how it all unfolded.
From director Kathryn Bigelow ("The Hurt Locker"), "Zero Dark Thirty" tells the story behind the international search for the world's most wanted terrorist, Osama bin Laden. The movie follows the decade-long CIA manhunt, along with SEAL Team Six, a group of Navy SEALs who brought down the Al Qaeda leader back in 2011.
The film, which screened for critics last week, is already a frontrunner in this year's crowded Oscar race, this despite the controversy of Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal allegedly getting access to unclassified documents in order to help write the movie (both have vehemently denied this). According to the prediction site Gold Derby, "Zero Dark Thirty" is currently at 9:1 odds to grab the coveted Best Picture award.
Today, Moviefone and sister site Huffington Post Entertainment are premiering the first official clip from the film, which shows the SEAL team taking off and heading toward a house in Abbottabad, Pakistan, to kill bin Laden. You can take a look at it in the video player above.
"Zero Dark Thirty," starring Chastain, Joel Edgerton and Kyle Chandler, is in limited release on December 19, and hits theaters nationwide on January 11, 2013.
