After skeptics said it couldn't be done, the centuries-spanning "Cloud Atlas" finally took to the big screen for its world premiere.
Sci-fi vets Andy and Lana Wachowski ("The Matrix"), along with Tom Tykwer ("Run Lola Run"), adapted David Mitchell's ambitious novel. The starstudded cast -- Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, Jim Sturgess, and Susan Sarandon -- all do double duty (hexa-duty?) as they play out six story lines, which span time and space.
